I give up...

I always send Little Grape on his visits telling the transporter exactly when he last ate when he will need to eat again. He only needs to eat once while on his visit....again she/the parents fed him extra...yep a whole extra bottle!!! Just because he will eat another bottle doesn't mean he needs to! That makes 8 ounces in 2 hours for a 6 week old!!!! She said that he "wasn't having none of that" by eating at his normal time (only). I said "he has a lot of gas..perhaps you are misinterpreting gas for hunger?" "Oh no...I know gas and hunger!" Of course, excuse me....I am "only" the person who has fed this child nearly every bottle for the past almost 7 weeks and massaged his tummy (with results!) every time he has a bubble he can't get out, but I bow to your "knowing gas and hunger"! I am realizing that I can say whatever I want and they won't listen, so I guess each week we will just deal with the extra gas/tummy pain (that I will not use a bottle to soothe). Lovely :( Sorry....just needed to vent a little!

His Dad last week bought newborn diapers and the transporter told him that he needed to get size 1. So he returned those and what does he show up with today? Size 2 diapers! She tells them over and over but they just don't "get it." Whatever....he'll be in them eventually. A tad curious though were the rest of the $50 for Little Grape went? He got one box of diapers totaling maybe $15-17 or so. I really wish the transporter had taken the money for the baby and given it to me...I am a deal finder and could have stretched that for diapers/wipes and formula. Again...not in control :(

So that's where this Friday has taken us...I forsee a long afternoon/evening ahead. Someone recently asked my husband how I was doing. His response was that I was doing well, but tired because of being up with the baby. He then was asked "why would she do that for someone else's kid?" The short and easy answer?? " She is doing what God called her (us) to do!" The other night as I was sitting up at 3:30am feeding the baby I started praying and this passage came to mind ...Matthew 25:31-46

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

When I look at LG's sweet little face (or any of my children for that matter) I have tried to picture Jesus looking back at me....even if that sweet face is all scrunched up and screaming! lol! If foster care easy? No! Do I think we are making a mistake? No way!! God has called us to LOVE others...not just when it's convenient for us or when it makes us look good or we want to feel good about ourselves. We are to LOVE when it's not convenient for us, when it's the right thing to do even though it takes sacrifice. We are to LOVE at ALL TIMES!

Amen and amen! We're doing respite this weekend and I'm up to my eyeballs in kids. But it's worth it. So worth it.

i love that passage. it is exactly what we are called to do and foster care truly is "the least of these".
