I received an email from Mikey's bio-mom today. Here is an excerpt....
i hope you all are doing well and with each day that passes mikey and you bond more and more as a family you guys are awsome godblesslo ve you mama annie
She still doesn't get it. She's writing like he was just placed in our home a bit ago. He's been here for over 2 1/2 years...we are the only family he knows! Yep...I think we have the "bonded" thing down :) She still has to refer to herself as "mama" as well. I know it's just her and I don't let it bother me anymore. I found it interesting that she now compliments us as well :) Nothing seems to have changed for her situation yet :( This will be an interesting relationship over the next many years. At least she didn't ask for him to call her this time! :)

I think it sounds really sweet... I would love to get a message like that from one of our birth moms. When we adopt our 3 foster kids, I plan on always referring to their moms' as "Mama M or Mama D." If I get the blessing of raising their children, it's the least I can do to make them feel like their life matters to someone.
These parents live in their own version of the story and it is obvious that they have no idea what really is going on in their bio child's life. I hope she is being nice, I struggle with Lizzy's bio mom saying things like 'my baby' and her bio dad calling her a nickname that no one has called her in six months, but it is all they have to cling to I guess. You are right, they don't get it at all...I just hope she really is trying for her sake.
Don't get me wrong...of course her life matters and I have reached out to her and even encouraged her to return to church and read her Bible. Maybe you haven't followed our story with her from the beginning....she's delusional. She truly thinks that our son still thinks of her as his mother (he came to us at 5 months old. She hasn't seen him in 1 1/2 yrs). I show her respect and Michael knows her by her first name (pictures...she lives out of state). I am his Mama. She will ALWAYS be his birthmother and we honor her as such, but she is not Mommy anymore. I think it's a very personal thing what each family calls the birthmother. If that's comfortable for you then that's great :-)
